From the negotiations taking place in the U.S. between Trump, Zelensky, and the leaders of NATO and the EU, it is becoming clear that even in the midst of this brutal war—against the backdrop of the sharp confrontation between Russia and Ukraine—through the mediation of third parties, Putin agreed that Ukraine must receive security guarantees equivalent to Article 5 of the NATO Charter.
Yes, Ukraine is in an extremely difficult situation today. However, thanks to the right negotiation tactics and effective cooperation with the West, it is possible to secure security guarantees in the context of conflict resolution.
And what do we have?
Armenia received no security guarantees because, at Azerbaijan’s request, negotiations were moved to a bilateral platform—without the involvement of mediators. Meanwhile, Ukraine insisted on involving mediators and ensuring that the collective West stood alongside it throughout the entire negotiation process. As a result, in the event of peace, it will be with their support that Ukraine receives security guarantees.
This fundamental mistake, made by the Armenian authorities—which I have repeatedly warned about and consistently highlighted—has today left us without any security guarantees. Nevertheless, the authorities continue to trumpet “peace,” ignoring its substantive absence.
I assure you, Armenia can obtain clear security guarantees from both Azerbaijan and Turkey and achieve genuine peace—not the one being imposed on us. However, for this to happen, the current government must be changed. Therefore, first we will change the government, and then we will put an end to this imposed, endless nightmare.
